Pre-bariatric surgery assessment:
Our hero's journey began with Dr. Ahmed Hatem, consultant of bariatric and laparoscopic surgeries, with a general assessment before performing Gastric Sleeve. Here is what is followed with all our patients:
1- Physical examination and evaluation of the degree of obesity must be carried out by studying the medical history and focusing on the causes and complications of obesity.
2- BMI and waist circumference should be calculated to assess the health risks that the patient may face as a result of this excess weight and also help in evaluating the expected results.
3- Family history of obesity must be taken into account. Despite the variety of causes of obesity, it is known that some factors play a clear role such as family history, that may cause genetic obesity.
4- Studying other health diseases that the patient suffers from, like polycystic ovary disease and hypothyroidism, because they are well-known causes of weight gain.
5- The medications that the patient receives continuously must be known, like antidepressants, hormonal replacement therapy, and other medications that are associated with weight gain.
6- Obesity complications, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis in the lower extremities, gallbladder diseases, and gout must be considered.
In men, obesity is associated with colorectal and prostate cancer. As for women, they may suffer from endometrial, cervical, ovarian, and breast cancer.
Obstructive sleep apnea may occur, and symptoms may include loud snoring and difficulty sleeping comfortably except in a seated position. The patient also suffers from morning headaches and a feeling of fatigue and exhaustion during the day, with episodes of drowsiness at inappropriate times.

Start your journey with Dr. Ahmed Hatem, consultant of bariatric and laparoscopic surgeries, to shape a new future free of obesity and full of achievements and activities.
